The media world is rapidly changing and experts ranging from television to social media talked about the disruption in a Techweek Dallas panel Tuesday at The Dallas Entrepreneur Center.
If you didn’t get a chance to go, here are some highlights:
Philip Nelson, president of Nelco Media, said new mobile technology has been a game changer, cutting out the gatekeepers and making everyone a potential content creator at virtually no cost.
“Platform doesn’t matter anymore. It’s good content that people want to watch and they go to watch it where it is. The thing that excites me most about cost creation is that there really is no one to tell you no anymore,” Nelson said.
Clarisa Lindenmeyer, founder of business consulting firm Proximity to Power, emphasized the importance and power of having your own social media presence.
“We certainly cannot compete with The Dallas Morning News, nor do we try. What we’re trying to do now is tell a deeper story. Use your network to be creative and tell the story,” Lindenmeyer said.
Other panelists included Hilary Kennedy, an Emmy Award-winning TV host of the Four Minute Buzz on The Blaze Network, and Susy Solis, president of Solis Media Strategies and former news broadcaster.
Techweek has continued Wednesday with an info session on the $100,000 Dallas Diversity & Inclusion Investment Challenge and sessions with patent and UX design experts.
Tonight you can dive into some emerging tech topics from machine learning to cryptocurrency at the Addison TreeHouse. Then, you can slide over to Bottle Rocket for a midweek happy hour. (Is it Wednesday already?)
Rest up innovators! Thursday is a big day with speakers from Brainspace, Sabre, Capital One Financial Services, Fossil, and many more at the Growth Summit.
