Burleson Mayor Ken Shetter announced recently that the city is launching a workforce development program to fill gaps in the local economy.
Burleson Works will provide niche training for applicants and place them in jobs at participating companies in the Fort Worth suburb. The training will be in the fields of welding, engineering, machinery, software development, industrial maintenance, automotive, and more. Educational partners include Hill College, Tarrant County College, Texas State Technical College, and University of Texas at Arlington.
According to the city, the need for technical workers in Johnson County is expected to increase by 24 percent in the next decade.

“With the DFW market being a desirable place for companies to call home it is extremely important for us to come together as a community and have a one-of-a-kind program that cultivates our talent in-house before it has an opportunity to leave,” said Alex Philips, city of Burleson economic development manager, in a release.
The city will conduct surveys with Burelson Works industrial partners annually to see what positions will be needed in the next few years.
“I am particularly pleased that this new program involves a strong partnership with Burleson employers,” Shetter said. “Ensuring, even more, families will have opportunities to thrive and that Burleson’s workforce can fuel the prosperity of dynamic businesses.”
The pilot program is open to residents within the city limits of Burleson. Applications open online on Jan. 1.
