Plano-Based Ribbon Launches ‘Network in a Box’ Solutions for Critical Markets and Disasters

Ribbon Communications' Network in a Box comes in a wide range of sizes—from formats the size of a suitcase to data center versions as big as a railway car. The solutions enable the rapid deployment of compute and networking capabilities in ruggedized hardened mobile enclosures, ensuring ensure "secure, continuous operations in any condition."

From disaster response to military deployments, a secure communications platform is an essential ingredient that can save lives amid the most challenging conditions. Now Plano-based Ribbon Communications has launched a portfolio of “Network in a Box” solutions to address those needs—enabling organizations to quickly restore critical communications during disruption or failure and rapidly add networking capabilities “when time is of the essence.”

Ribbon (Nasdaq: RBBN), a leader in real-time communications technology, IP routing, and optical networking solutions, said its solutions enable the rapid deployment of compute and networking capabilities in ruggedized hardened mobile enclosures across a wide number of critical markets.

As small as a suitcase—or as big as a railway car

Offered in both off-the-shelf and customized configurations, Ribbon Network in a Box comes in a wide range of sizes—from formats the size of a suitcase to data center versions as big as an industrial railway car.

Highly customizable and rapidly deployable, the solutions allow teams to “rapidly establish communications, maintain connectivity, and operate with local-site independence when existing networks are unavailable or lack capability,” Ribbon said.

The “highly secure” communications platforms enable both high speed data and voice networking services, while supporting multiple physical networking and access technologies. No existing network connectivity is required, allowing for continued operation in the most challenging environments.

Haim Moscovich, VP of integrated defense solutions at Ribbon, said Network in a Box “combines extensive redundancy to guarantee high degrees of resiliency, with rapid, on-demand deployment to ensure secure, continuous operations in any condition.”

“Proven in the field across thousands of deployments, it delivers reliable, real-time performance when it matters most,” he added in a statement.

Supported first responders in 2023 Turkey earthquake

Ribbon said its Network in a Box solution has been deployed “in the most extreme conditions across multiple real-world scenarios with military agencies in North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.” One key deployment supported first responders during the February 2023 magnitude 7.8 earthquake in Turkey, the company said.

“In today’s digitized battlespace, information superiority creates the decisive advantage, making communications capabilities more important than ever,” said Jason Brumfield, VP of U.S. federal sales at Ribbon. “That’s where NiaB comes in, helping organizations and individuals quickly reconnect and access critical information in even the most challenging situation.”

Ribbon said its NiaB solutions offer multiple configurations designed to support different network operator types, geographies, and terrains, including:

:: Rapid disaster recovery for communications providers and ISPs
:: Critical infrastructure recovery across utilities, oil and gas, and transportation
:: First responder connectivity and coordination
:: Container-based transportable data centers with fully independent power and cooling capabilities with redundant networking interfaces
:: Network survivability with zero-touch deployment
:: Temporary and mobile site deployments
:: Cellular network recovery (5G in a Box)
:: Multi-access backhaul restoration

No matter where it’s deployed or why, the company says its Network in a Box can help maintain resilient communications while protecting critical infrastructure and sustaining operations “when reliability matters most.”
