The second annual History Harvest will be held Saturday at the Ella Mae Shamblee Library in Fort Worth, hosted by the National Juneteenth Museum (NJM) in partnership with the University of North Texas Libraries Special Collections. The event brings together community members to share artifacts to help document, preserve, and celebrate the legacy of the Juneteenth holiday.
The event will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at the library at 1062 Evans Ave.
The History Harvest initiative aims to preserve and highlight the histories of the local community, ensuring they are remembered and shared for years to come, while enriching the museum’s collection and UNT Libraries’ digital archives.
“The History Harvest is a unique opportunity to bring our community’s stories to life,” National Juneteenth Museum CEO Jarred Howard said. “This event is designed to help preserve our shared history and ensure it remains accessible for future generations, while showcasing authentic narratives that honor Juneteenth’s rich history.”
NJM said that participants are encouraged to bring artifacts such as books, photographs, scrapbooks, textiles, written stories, fine art, historic objects, audiovisual materials and other memorabilia for donation or digital scanning.
Items will be digitized on-site by the UNT Special Collections team, allowing guests to share their stories and help preserve the community’s history without parting with treasured originals.
