Kalibrate, a global insights firm that provides software and services relating to location analytics and fuel pricing, has acquired Houston-based IMST Corp., an independent market research firm specializing in site selection, analysis, and sales forecasting for convenience stores and fuel stations. Headquartered in Manchester, England, Kalibrate has an office in Irving and its CEO, Charles Wetzel, is based in Dallas-Fort Worth.
Kalibrate said the acquisition will bolster its fuel station and convenience store forecasting capabilities and capacity. IMST serves thousands of convenience and fuel operators across the U.S. with reports and projections for fuel volume, convenience store sales, car wash, QSR, truck stop, and travel center developments.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“We’re delighted to welcome IMST into the Kalibrate fold and further strengthen our offer to our clients in the fuel sector,” Kalibrate CEO Wetzel said in a statement. “Both Kalibrate and IMST believe data is the core driver of better decisions and we look forward to sharing methodologies to enhance what we do.”
“The IMST acquisition complements Kalibrate’s existing fuel station feasibility study business which currently serves over 300 clients annually. IMST’s reporting experience with truck stops and complementary retail services alongside fuel will significantly enhance Kalibrate’s current fuel volume and EV impact insights for more holistic site forecasting,” Wetzel added.
IMST CEO and President Travis Heiser said the deal combines two complementary companies.
“We’re excited to be joining the team at Kalibrate. We’ve historically served slightly different sections of the market but with obvious complementary adjacencies,” Heiser said in a statement. “Kalibrate’s pedigree in the fuel space gives us great confidence that we’re aligned with a business that understands the challenges and opportunities facing retailers, and the need for data to be their guide throughout.”
“Fuel and convenience store retail is more competitive than ever—and the range of ancillary services to evaluate is more diverse than ever,” Heiser added. “Kalibrate and IMST’s combined expertise across operators’ revenue lines mean we become the one-stop provider of insight for anyone looking to forecast site potential across new build, remodel, upgrade, or acquisition opportunities.”
IMST Corp. is a national leader in single-site studies for convenience stores and fuel stations.
IMST provides data that convenience and fuel retailers need to make profitable development decisions. The company said that thousands of new build, upgrade, and remodel evaluation projects have been completed over the last 30 years. Projects span the entire U.S. and sections of Canada, IMST said. The company provides broad experience relating to traffic counts, demographics, competitive impacts, pricing strategies, and fuel and convenience development trends.
