JLR—formerly known as Jaguar Land Rover—has chosen Irving-based Alkegen, a high-performance specialty materials company pioneering innovative solutions for the battery industry, for a new range of anti-thermal propagation products. The products will bring “the best in thermal protection” to JLR’s next-generation electric vehicles, Alkegen said.

JLR is investing nearly $19 billion in its electric-first Reimagine strategy over a five-year period, the company announced last year.
Anti-thermal propagation products are intended to prevent the spread of thermal runaway within battery packs. In the event of thermal runaway, the system contains the energy, preventing it from reaching neighboring cells or modules.
Alkegen said the new product line introduces a range of flexible advanced solutions that provide multiple levels of protection throughout the battery, adding that its versatility allows for seamless integration into diverse applications within battery design, “showcasing its adaptability across different electric vehicle models.”
The company said it will play a vital role in supporting JLR’s design process and assisting in material selection for anti-thermal propagation management within the battery pack. Production for the new product line will begin ramping up immediately, aligning with the timeline for integration into JLR’s future EV programs.
Thermal management for safety and sustainability
Alkegen said it has provided thermal management, sustainability, and driver safety solutions to major car OEMs for decades. It continues to build a broad portfolio of battery material technologies to improve lithium-based battery pack safety while helping to extend battery life and accelerate charging time.
Alkegen makes high-performance specialty materials used in advanced applications including electric vehicles, energy storage, filtration, fire protection, and high-temperature insulation, among many others.
Last year, we told you that Alkegen launched a revolutionary silicon fiber anode material platform, SiFAB, into commercial production.
Its SiFAB production line is an extension of the company’s established large-scale manufacturing facility in New Carlisle, Indiana.
Alkegen said that it employs a vertically integrated approach across a broad array of technology platforms to achieve energy efficiency, pollution reduction, and enhanced safety for individuals, structures, and equipment.
The company has more than 60 manufacturing facilities operating in 12 countries and employs more than 7,500 employees globally.
