The Dallas Arts District could have its very own radio station by 2018.
The FCC has given its stamp of approval on the station’s call letters, KKAD 95.7-FM, GuideLive reported. There are still many other details to be worked out including its physical location, but the Dallas Arts District Foundation knows it wants to use recycled materials, vintage equipment, and maybe even solar power in the station design.
The station will give voice to artists and help engage the public in the arts district, and beyond. It will have a short reach of a few miles, but listeners out of the broadcast area can tune in online.
“There are a whole lot of people every day who are in downtown, steps away from where great shows, exhibits, and conversations are occurring — but they have no idea,” Catherine Cuellar, former executive director of the Dallas Arts District, told GuideLive.

To find the answer, host Stephen Dubner flew to DFW to see why the region is so business-friendly, why the people are so friendly too, why cities to the north are growing like hotcakes, and why a Basquiat got on the wall of the Dallas Museum of Art. Oh, and he ate a Meat Potato at Sonny Bryan's Smokehouse. (Thumbs up.)
