“Let’s get ready for Phase 2.”

.…on the winning SMU-led proposal that landed the Texoma Semiconductor Tech Hub in the region, via LinkedIn.
In late October, Dallas won its second federal innovation hub award in two months when the Texoma Semiconductor Tech Hub landed in the city as part of 31 nationwide tech hubs designated by the Biden-Harris administration.
SMU snagged the Dallas hub’s lead agency role, earning plaudits from Magill.
“Congratulations to the team at Southern Methodist University for your leadership in bringing together the Texoma Semiconductor consortium and winning the Tech Hub designation and strategy development grant,” Magill wrote on LinkedIn. “This is a transformational opportunity for the Greater Texoma Region.”
With semiconductors designated as a critical national priority, the Texoma Tech Hub is uniquely positioned as one of just four federal tech hubs out of the newly announced 31 to be targeted specifically at advancing semiconductor manufacturing and innovation.
Locally, the federally funded economic development initiative aims to strengthen, build on, and drive innovation in the existing semiconductor supply chain in 29 counties in North Texas and Oklahoma through regional collaboration and workforce development.
Phase 2 of the federal procurement process involves nailing down the “consortium structure” for each tech hub—and driving the Texoma Semiconductor Tech Hub toward full operation. The deadline for Phase 2 applications is February 29, 2024. As you can see from Magill’s Last Word above, there’s no time like the present for all parties involved to keep the momentum moving.
You can read all about the tech hub—and its goal to make the Texahoma region “a global semiconductor leader within 10 years”—in our story here.
