A new hotel attraction will soon open in downtown Dallas—but most locals are more likely to experience its restaurants and lounges than its rooms. So what’s slated to be on tap at the new JW Marriott Dallas Arts District, from the Dallas-based Sam Moon Group?
First and foremost, Executive Chef Jonah Friedmann will be unveiling Margaret’s, a ranch-to-table concept featuring “elevated” breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus:
Margaret’s is named after the late Dallas philanthropist Margaret McDermott, who donated millions to arts, education, and science organizations before her death at age 106 in 2018. (McDermott also has a bridge named after her over the Trinity River, cementing her memory even further in the downtown landscape).
According to Travel Daily News, Margaret’s signature dishes will include “locally sourced beef carpaccio topped with grapefruit zest, truffled horseradish crema, and balsamic pearls smoked tableside with hickory wood, 72-hour hickory smoked Prime bone-in beef short rib served with house barbecue sauce and Texas jalapeño elote, and a Texas Iberico carbonara of handmade pasta tossed in pecorino cream and braised local Iberico pork cheeks, English peas, wild Texas mushrooms, and a confit yolk topped with brown butter toasted oreganata.”
Outdoor patio and lounge with a view—and a street-level cocktail lounge
On the hotel’s 11th floor near the pool deck, an outdoor patio and lounge named Vincent’s will offer a 40-foot overhanging ceiling and a “one-of-a-kind-view” of the Dallas Arts District. The open-air, sky-level terrace bar was inspired by Vincent van Gogh, according to JW Marriott. Sharable bites including a locally sourced wagyu beef musubi and crab cake seared in brown butter will be available along with the cocktails.
Down below, a street-level cocktail lounge called 800 North will attract passersby on North Harwood Street. JW Marriott says it will offer “sophisticated yet approachable ambiance where hotel guests and locals will enjoy inventive beverages.” Sharable bites at 800 North will include something called “cattle corn,” which Travel Daily News describes as “liquid nitrogen-tossed caramel corn designed to create a dragon breath effect.” Also available will be “truffle beignets topped with pecorino, crispy garlic and chives, and cowboy toast, thick slices of buttered brioche topped with whipped chicken liver mousse, huckleberry preserves, candied onion jam, balsamic pearls and a light dusting of Himalayan sea salt,” Travel Daily News says.
Luxury hotel to feature ‘resort-style amenities’
When it opens as soon as later this month, the 267-room hotel—which was built with architectural inventiveness over a parking garage—will be the first in Dallas from JW Marriott. That’s the high-end luxury brand that Marriott named after its founder.
According to the Sam Moon Group, in addition to its food and beverage offerings, the luxury hotel will also feature “resort-style amenities” including a rooftop pool deck & bar, market, a 9,000-square foot grand ballroom, and a variety of meeting spaces.
The building was designed by Dallas-based HKS, with Looney & Associates designing the interiors. DPR Construction served as general contractor on the project.
The hotel is already accepting reservations with standard room rates starting around $570 a night, according to the Dallas Morning News.
