Irving-based ShiftKey—which uses proprietary tech to directly connect healthcare professionals with facilities that have immediate shift vacancies—has been named the region’s fastest-growing entrepreneurial company in the annual SMU Cox Dallas 100 ranking.
As Dallas-Fort Worth’s No. 1-ranked company, ShiftKey saw more than 2,000% sales growth over the past three years.
The SMU Cox Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship revealed ShiftKey’s No. 1 status along with the rankings of 99 other top local entrepreneurial companies at the annual Dallas 100 Awards Gala Wednesday at the Dallas Hyatt Regency. The winners were announced in ranked order from 100 to 1.
Top company is ‘doing well by doing good’
“We’re pleased to recognize this year’s No. 1 Dallas 100 company for ‘doing well by doing well,’” Simon Mak, executive director of the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship at the SMU Cox School of Business, said in a statement. “During the peak of COVID, healthcare facilities struggled to staff their shifts 24/7. The platform that ShiftKey provided was literally a lifesaver. It’s easy to see why the company experienced such phenomenal growth over the past three years.
In June, ShiftKey was one of the 11 winners of the EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2022 Central Plains Award.
The Dallas 100 generated a collective $9 billion from 2019 to 2021
Collectively, the 2022 Dallas 100 companies generated more than $9 billion from 2019 to 2021, the last year for which complete financial records are available. They created more than 12,000 jobs in the same time frame, growing average sales by 141%. In 2021 alone, all 100 companies together generated sales of over $4.5 billion, the Caruth Institute said. That’s a Dallas 100 record high for the last 13 years, according to executive director Mak
“These companies deserve recognition for their contributions to the area economy, especially over the past three years when the pandemic took a huge toll on how we all live and do business,” Mak said. “They did so much more than survive—they all thrived.”
To qualify for the Dallas 100 competition, companies must have revenue earnings of $500,000 to $100 million dollars.
Ranked by percentage growth and absolute dollar growth
The winners—a broad spectrum of businesses in Dallas and 16 surrounding cities—were ranked by the Caruth Institute for Entrepreneurship based on percentage growth and absolute dollar growth over the previous three years.
The 2022 Dallas 100 program and event sponsors included The ActOne Group; FORVIS, LLP; Bluecrest Financial Alliances; Dallas Business Journal; Executive Press; JLL; KRLD NewsRadio 1080; MarketScale; Texas Capital Bank; Thompson Coburn, LLP; and USI.
