Atos, a European information technology services and consulting giant, has been awarded a multi-year contract with its home state in the U.S.
Atos North America, headquartered in Irving, has signed a contract with the State of Texas’ Department of Information Resources (DIR) to deliver next generation private cloud transformation, along with artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities. Though Atos has worked with the state since 2012, this new announcement allows the company to take on profound changes within the department.
Atos will deliver infrastructure services for servers, networks, and data center operations, according to a press release. The resulting ecosystem will be more adaptive, resilient, affordable, and secure.
The DIR is reimagining how to address Texas’ business and technical dynamics, Todd Kimbrie, the DIR’s chief information officer, said. The goal is to better position the state for “the digital future.”
Kimbrie said in partnering with Atos, the state will get a secure, scalable, and agile private cloud platform. This will allow for processes to be more automated and efficient, resources to be freed up, and service delivery quality to be improved for agencies and residents throughout the state.
According to Atos, it plans to help the DIR “streamline and empower its suite of shared services to efficiently and cost-effectively serve the state’s agencies and institutions of higher education facilities.”
“We are dedicated to helping the State of Texas take on its profound and exciting changes as it executes an ambitious state-wide commitment to modernize technical resources and digital capabilities amid an unprecedented growth in population,” Beth Howen, VP, Head of Public Sector & Defense for Atos in North America, said in a statement. “The new contract will require an innovative mindset, in-house expertise and refined skill sets to produce the intended outcomes and ensure services can be delivered in the most productive and secure ways.”
Atos and North Texas, specifically, have a history. In October, we told you about the company unveiling its latest Google Cloud Artificial Intelligence (AI) Lab at its headquarters in Irving.
The Google Cloud AI lab—the company’s only one in North America—joins locations in London, Paris, and Munich. Through the network of labs, France-based Atos is helping AI solutions to be adopted in Europe and around the world.
The lab is led by Tatianna Flores, head of AI, and a team of eight machine learning engineers and solutions architects who strive to solve big problems. Flores was recently named one of the Future 50 in Dallas Innovates 2020: The Magazine. At the lab, she works with an empathetic approach, considering customer needs—whether that means in an incubation workshop or a two- to three-day hackathon—and then focusing on creating immediate solutions so that clients can take their products to market.
