11 North Texas Companies Make Fortune’s 2025 ‘Most Innovative’ List

The 11 North Texas companies who helped define "what innovation looks like in 2025" were led by AT&T at No. 37, followed among the top 100 by Texas Instruments, Charles Schwab, and McKesson.

Fortune is out with its list of America’s Most Innovative Companies, and 11 companies based in North Texas made the grade by helping to define “what innovation looks like in 2025.”

The 300 companies on this year’s list brought in over $12.6 trillion in revenue over the latest 12 months, with the median revenue figure at $22 billion, Fortune noted, adding, “The majority of companies on the 2025 list are based in California, in line with the previous years’ lists. And while the top three companies are all in the technology sector, health care made up a bigger portion of this year’s list than any other sector, with 63 companies represented.”

Fortune said the list is built on three pillars: product innovation, process innovation, and innovation culture.

For the third year in a row, Mountain View, California-based Alphabet, the parent company of Google, topped the list at No. 1, followed in the top 5 by Microsoft, Apple, IBM, and Salesforce.

AT&T leads North Texas companies on the list

Leading the 11 North Texas companies on the 2025 list is AT&T, which made major moves in 2024, including selling its 70% stake in DirecTV to TPG in a $7.6 billion deal and announcing innovations like partnering with AST SpaceMobile to provide a space-based broadband network direct to “everyday cell phones.”

How the list was compiled

The 2025 list of America’s Most Innovative Companies was published by Fortune in partnership with Statista. Statista compiled a list of more than 10,000 companies in the selection for this year’s list. Per Fortune, the focus was on companies which employ at least 500 people in the US, but several hundred smaller companies which appeared to be “vibrant and innovative” were also included.

In addition, a call for entry was published on Fortune.com, and any eligible company headquartered in the U.S. was allowed to register to participate in the ranking. “The list was fed into a survey platform and allowed survey participants to quickly choose the ones they wanted to evaluate, through an autofill system,” Fortune noted, “To remain inclusive, each survey participant could add a company they wanted to nominate, allowing Statista to also feed it into the system.”

Companies received a score in each of the three dimensions of product innovation, process innovation, and innovation culture, with each dimension accounting for a third of the total score.
