Dallas-based Southwest Airlines just found more ways to keep single-use plastics out of its planes, with cold drink cups made from a 75% bamboo pulp blend and new birch drink stirrers. The moves could reduce the airline's inflight single-use plastics "by more than 1.5 million pounds annually," Southwest said.
The appointments come as part of an agreement with activist investor Elliott Investment Management and are effective as of Nov. 1. Following his departure from the board and related responsibilities, former longtime CEO Gary Kelly will assume the title of chairman emeritus.
