In one of his first deep interviews since Colossal's dire wolf debut made global noise, Ben Lamm joins the TechStuff podcast to talk mammoths, backlash, and why he's not here to play it safe.
“Game of Thrones” made them famous, but the prehistoric dire wolves were real—and, according to Colossal Biosciences, have now returned after 12,500 years in what it calls the world’s first successful de-extinction. The work goes beyond headlines: It could change how we save endangered species.
Meet Romulus, Remus, and Khaleesi in a video—and hear dire wolf howls for the first time in more than 12 millennia.
Long's Austin-based Re:wild and Dallas-based Colossal Biosciences have announced a new partnership to accelerate global efforts "to save species on the brink of extinction, search for lost species, and restore key habitats for species recovery and rewilding."
Colossal is already working to "de-extinct" the woolly mammoth via a mammoth-elephant hybrid project. Now the Tasmanian tiger—which went extinct nearly 100 years ago due to human hunting—is the second species Colossal is seeking to bring back.
"We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Andrew Pask and the University of Melbourne to restore this amazing animal to Earth," said Ben Lamm, Colossal's co-founder and CEO.
