Student Team Engineers Improved Method to Transport Thoracic Donor Organs

When Dr. Irina Timofte wanted to find a way to give donor lungs more time in transit, she turned to a team of six engineering students at UT Dallas. It is the third time the UT Southwestern transplant pulmonologist has worked with a UTDesign Capstone project.

Donations from three Dallas-based foundations focused on health and science made the first public contributions to the "first-of-its-kind" transplant center. The gifts, along with another major donation, will provide technology and outfit two "highly specialized labs not found in hospitals." We take a look at what's being funded that makes the center unique.
