Joseph Creed joined Caterpillar in 1997, and was appointed CEO and became a board member in May. He'll take up the board chairman post on April 1 when current executive chairman and board member D. James Umpleby III retires.

Irving-based Caterpiller has appointed Joseph E. Creed, group president of its Energy & Transportation division, to the newly created position of chief operating officer. George Moubayed, current SVP of Enterprise Strategy, has been named to the additional role of chief sustainability and strategy officer.
