McWane, Inc. has received a newly granted patent for "Remote Monitoring of Water Distribution System," invented by Carrollton-based Brian Morrow and Colleyville-based Charles Kitowski. The patent describes a system that uses sensors on a fire hydrant to measure water characteristics and transmit data remotely over a network. A year after fiber broadband giant Frontier Communications moved its HQ from Connecticut to Dallas, the company made even bigger news today with the announcement of its acquisition by New York-based Verizon—America's No. 1 wireless provider and a rival in fiber broadband delivery.
