‘Billionaire Bunker’ in Florida Adds North Texas-Based CourMed to Its Concierge Amenities List

A manmade island in Florida known as the "Billionaire Bunker" is home to numerous billionaires and celebrities, including Tom Brady, Jeff Bezos, Ivanka Trump, and Julio Iglesias. Along with their exclusive digs and amenities, the island's residents are now getting services from North Texas-based concierge health provider CourMed.

Confer, whose app platform lets mortgage shoppers compare multiple mortgage offers, has found a new home in the Serendipity Labs coworking space in McKinney's Craig Ranch. It aims to open its platform to brokers, banks, and lenders in order to help them provide a plug-and-play model to give more options to borrowers. It's now looking to raise a $4 million seed funding round.
“The end goal is to guide buyers in making a conscious and intelligent decision,” says Yatin Karnik, Confer's founder and CEO.

Two Dallas companies have been awarded $100,000 each by the Google for Startups Black Founders Fund, which aims to help close racial disparities in VC funding given to diverse founders. The startups will also receive Google Cloud credits and hands-on support from Google. They join several other North Texas companies that received earlier grants from the fund.
“Across the U.S., there are amazing Black startup founders who are building great companies yet are locked out of access to the funding that's critical to their success,” Google wrote in a blog post.

McKinney-based CourMed, a concierge health care services delivery company, has expanded with a regional office in Miami Beach and a growing presence in several Western states.
“There's an opportunity for us to really create something new in the marketplace that doesn't exist,” its founder and CEO Derrick Miles tells Dallas Innovates. “This is a totally different type of care. We call it the antithesis of seven-minute medicine.”

CourMed, Kanarys, ShearShare, and Zirtue are among the 76 nationwide recipients of the $5 million Google for Startups Black Founders Fund. Each startup will receive non-dilutive cash awards—meaning that the founders aren't giving up any company ownership in exchange for the funding.
