EY Reveals 19 Winners of the Entrepreneur Of The Year 2024 Southwest Award

Dallas-Fort Worth trailblazers lead the pack with 17 of the 19 winners in the prestigious EY Entrepreneur Of The Year Southwest Awards, representing diverse industries including recycling, healthcare, sports marketing, and cosmetics retailing.

A nationwide provider of on-demand, same-day bulk waste removal and bespoke sustainability services, CheckSammy said the funding will allow it to expand its role as "enablers of the circular economy" by providing new tools to strategically optimize its clients' ESG scores and diversion efforts.

More than 17 million tons of textiles go to landfills every year, but nearly 95% of all textiles are reusable or recyclable. CheckSammy, whose U.S. headquarters is in Dallas, aims to help through its Drop program, which allows clothing retailers, manufacturers, and even multifamily apartment communities to deploy drop bags or bins and schedule one-time or recurring recycling pick-ups.

Founded in 2018, CheckSammy's story has its beginnings in Co-Founder and CEO Sam Scoten's realization that there was an increased shortage of landfill space. He also wanted to tackle one of the last unregulated utilities —the waste services sector. "It's an industry that's long overdue for disruption," said FirePower Capital's Trevor Simpson.
CheckSammy says it brings greater transparency to bulk waste removal and sustainability services by leveraging data to empower fiscally and environmentally responsible decision-making.
