North Texas’ Dave & Buster’s Opens First-Ever Franchise Location in India

Coppell-based Dave & Buster's opened the doors to its first-ever franchise and first location in India in the city of Bengaluru, which the company called the ideal place to launch its partnership with the Samgamner, India-based Malpani Group. The partners are set to open a second Dave & Buster's in India in Mumbai this spring.

Coppell-based Dave & Buster’s Entertainment Inc. has made its debut in India with a flagship location in the city of Bengaluru, marking the brand’s first-ever franchise store.

India, with a rapidly growing middle class and increasing urbanization, is the world’s fifth-largest economy and is projected to become the third largest by 2030, Dave & Buster’s said, making it “the perfect market” for its brand.

The company is partnering with Samgamner, India’s Malpani Group on the Bengaluru location, which opened its doors Dec. 26. A diversified business with interests in the likes of renewable energy, real estate, and hotels, the Malpani Group is one of India’s leading owners and operators of amusement and water parks. It operates six such venues including Imagicaa, the country’s largest theme and water park.

“This is a momentous occasion for Dave & Buster’s,” Antonio Bautista, the company’s chief international development officer, said in a statement. “Bangalore, known for its energy and innovation, is an ideal city to launch this journey. We’re excited to partner with the Malpani Group to deliver the world-class experiences that define Dave & Buster’s and to introduce many of these for the first time to Indian audiences.”

Dave & Buster’s Entertainment Inc., founded in 1982, owns and operates more than 200 venues in North America offering entertainment and dining experiences through two distinct brands: its flagship Dave & Buster’s and Main Event.

According to a report in Restaurant News Online last year, the company had plans to open 200 locations in about 25 international markets, including in Australia, the Middle East, and India. As of April 2024 it reportedly had a pipeline of 33 new international locations planned, all through franchise agreements.

Locally inspired Pan-Asian flavors on offer

Dave & Buster’s said a grand opening celebration for the Bengaluru store is planned for February. A second store in Mumbai is scheduled for the spring.

Dave & Buster’s said the Bengaluru location will offer wall-to-wall screens and a state-of-the-art midway filled with world-class games, many of which are being introduced to India for the first time. It said that guests can also experience competitive social gaming and enjoy India’s first bowling experience, featuring Nitro Lighting and Sparks in combination.

Food lovers will enjoy a menu showcasing a unique blend of Dave & Buster’s classic Americana dishes and locally inspired Pan-Asian flavors, the company said. A curated drinks menu, including signature cocktails, mocktails, and innovative beverages designed to complement the vibrant flavors of the cuisine, will be available.

In a statement, Shreya Malpani, director of Malpani Group, called Bengaluru the “ideal launchpad” for the group’s partnership with Dave & Buster’s. The Mumbai store will only enhance “what promises to be a long and successful journey together,” she added.
