Hithium Tech USA—a subsidiary of China-based Xiamen Hithium Energy Storage Technology Co.—has announced plans for a new battery module and system assembly facility in Mesquite.
The nearly half-million-square foot facility will be housed within 20 East Trinity Pointe at 12955 FM 2932 off I-20 in Mesquite. The 284-acre industrial park from Dallas-based Stream Realty Partners is slated to total 3.4 million square feet when its three-building second phase is completed. Stream broke ground on the park in 2022.
Founded in 2019, Hithium specializes in battery energy storage systems (BESS). Its stationary energy storage products are designed for utility-scale as well as commercial and industrial applications. The company is known innovations including “groundbreaking” safety improvements to its lithium-ion batteries as well as increases in the lifecycle of its battery energy systems. To date, Hithium says it has shipped more than 20 GWh of BESS products, “including cells, systems and others.”
Hithium’s first plant in North America
The Mesquite plant will be Hithium’s first manufacturing facility in North America and is anticipated to add “141 manufacturing jobs” to the city of Mesquite in five years, when the plant is slated to come online. It will have an annual capacity of 10 GWh, the company said.
Hithium Chairman Jeff Wu said the facility “will accelerate Hithium’s development and production of energy storage system products for the U.S. market while also boosting the Mesquite area’s economic growth and development.”
“We’re excited to collaborate with local partners to ensure that our plans align with Mesquite’s vision for growth,” Hu added in a statement, “which is anchored in a rejuvenated manufacturing economy with diverse job opportunities and value for the community.”
Hithium, whose U.S. headquarters are in Fremont , California, said its “continued investment in the U.S. market with a strong local team and national wide service network will ensure comprehensive support throughout the entire project lifecycle, from sales operations to engineering, project execution, and after-sales service.”
Welcoming a global clean-energy company
“We’re very proud that a global company in the clean energy industry will make its home in Mesquite for its first U.S. production location,” Mesquite Mayor Daniel Alemán Jr. said in a statement. “Also, this is an exciting development for our community as we continue to grow in Kaufman County. Hithium will be the first industrial company in the new 20 East Trinity Pointe business park.”
Kevin Shatley, VP of economic development at the Dallas Regional Chamber, called Hithium’s choice of North Texas for the project “a great example of the fruit that grows from significant corporate location projects and how the economic development leaders in our region work together to create new and thriving sectors.”
“Residents and our regional economy stand to gain from this development,” Shatley added. “Generating jobs in Southern Dallas County is important to our future prosperity and something the Dallas Regional Chamber focuses on intently.”
Matt Dornak, managing director and parter at Stream, said that as the development’s first tenant, “Hithium serves as the anchor tenant for 20 East and will bring a significant number of new jobs to the city. We’re pleased to have worked alongside Hithium and the city of Mesquite to complete this transaction and are grateful for their partnership.”
