HF Sinclair Appoints Former BP Legal Veteran as EVP and General Counsel

With over three decades of experience in the oil and gas industry, Eric L. Nitcher "will be a valuable contributor as we continue to grow and position HF Sinclair for the future," said CEO Tim Go.

Dallas-based HF Sinclair Corporation (NYSE:DINO), known for its diverse portfolio of refined products and renewable diesel, is bringing on board a legal expert with over three decades of experience in the oil and gas industry.

The independent energy company has announced Eric L. Nitcher as executive vice president and general counsel, effective July 10.

Nitcher brings 35 years of legal experience to HF Sinclair, the company said. Prior to joining HF Sinclair, he served as group general counsel and executive vice president, legal at BP, from January 2017 until his retirement in December 2023. In this role, according to the announcement, Nitcher was responsible for supporting BP’s executive team and board, managing a global legal team that handled a range of complex matters.

Nitcher’s career began as a litigation and regulatory lawyer in Wichita, Kansas. He joined BP PLC, then Amoco, in 1990 and held various roles of increasing responsibility over his 33-year tenure. His expertise, as detailed in the announcement, spans litigation, regulatory compliance, global resolution of civil, criminal, and regulatory claims and investigations, resolution of high-profile corporate disputes, negotiation of large-scale M&A transactions, and formation and ongoing support for international joint ventures.

Tim Go, chief executive officer and president of HF Sinclair, welcomed Nitcher to the company’s executive leadership team.

“Eric brings over 35 years of legal experience in the oil and gas industry,” Go said. “I’m confident that he will be a valuable contributor as we continue to grow and position HF Sinclair for the future.”

HF Sinclair was formed as a result of a deal announced in August 2021, when Dallas-based HollyFrontier Corp. and Holly Energy Partners acquired Sinclair Oil and a related business for nearly $2.6 billion. In December, the corporation completed the acquisition of Holly Energy Partners L.P., advancing the company’s strategy of integrating and optimizing its assets as a combined company under HF Sinclair, CEO Go said at the time.

HF Sinclair Corporation produces and markets products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel, renewable diesel, and other specialty products. The company owns and operates refineries in six states: Kansas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Wyoming, Washington, and Utah.

HF Sinclair’s retail presence is significant, the company noted, supplying fuels to more than 1,500 branded stations and licensing the use of the Sinclair brand at more than 300 additional locations throughout the country. The company has also made strides in renewable energy, producing renewable diesel at two of its facilities in Wyoming and at its facility in Artesia, New Mexico.

According to the announcement, subsidiaries of HF Sinclair produce and market base oils and other specialized lubricants in the U.S., Canada, and the Netherlands, exporting products to more than 80 countries.
