Fortress Solutions Appoints Former President of AT&T Networks Engineering and Operations to Board

Scott Mair, a long-time telecom industry professional and the former president of AT&T Networks Engineering and Operations, has joined Fortress Solutions as a member of its Board of Directors.

Plano-based Fortress Solutions is a global provider of critical infrastructure management and support services for various sectors, including telecommunications, electronic vehicle charging stations, and IoT devices.

John Shelnutt, CEO of Fortress Solutions, welcomed Shelnutt to the board, calling the industry veteran’s extensive experience a “critical asset” to the company.

“His unparalleled understanding and insight into 5G mobile networks, networking operations, and telecom engineering will provide our teams with invaluable wisdom that will allow us to not only grow our current business but expand to meet our company goals,” Shelnutt said.

Mair, who recently retired after a 37-year career at AT&T, played a pivotal role in numerous groundbreaking initiatives. The exec led the launch of the first standards-based mobile 5G network, oversaw AT&T’s next-generation wireless and wired networks, and was responsible for introducing a secure communications platform for U.S. Public Safety workers across the nation, including EMS, police, firefighters, and first responders.

In a statement, Mair expressed his excitement about joining the board.

“The telecom industry is in an age of flux as more and more companies embrace the inevitable digital era.  Mair said. “Fortress is at the forefront of these changes.”

Mair says Fortress helps companies deploy new digital services faster while providing essential infrastructure support to maintain the availability of legacy platforms.

Founded in 2002 as a Nortel Networks repair facility, Fortress Solutions has grown to become a top global provider of telecommunication product repair and refurbishment services. In 2012, it was acquired by Galatyn Equity Partners and Vspeed Capital, leading to expanded logistics and supply chain optimization services. Today the company’s services span the telecommunications market, EV charging integration, drone fleet management, and other digital transformation endeavors.
