‘Fantastical Realms’: Meow Wolf Pop‑Up at SPARK! Dallas Opens Saturday

Teams of student artists from six Dallas-area high schools got mentoring from Meow Wolf—then worked their own "Fantastical Realms" artistry to create a colorful pop-up at SPARK! Dallas, a creative nonprofit south of downtown.

Meow Wolf has been wowing audiences for nearly two years at Grapevine Mills mall, offering “a journey through a technicolor wonderland that blends storytelling, technology, and immersive art.” Now, thanks to student artists from six Dallas-area high schools, a “fantastical” local popup is about to open in Dallas.

The “SPARK! PRISMATIC: Fantastical Realms Art Pop-up Experience” opens Saturday, May 31, and runs through September 7 at SPARK! Dallas, located south of downtown at Southside on Lamar, 1409 Botham Jean Blvd., Suite #004.

This marks the second year of a collaboration between Meow Wolf and SPARK! Dallas, a nonprofit that provides children from second grade to high school with “a fully immersive creative environment with hands-on learning that develops their self-definition as creative individuals.”

The eye-popping, deep-hued exhibition offers “an immersive experience showcasing the students’ creativity through an area imagined, designed, and built in a single color and theme,” SPARK! said.

Out of 26 submissions from schools seeking to take part, SPARK! selected four public high schools and two private schools based on their creativity, design elements, and proposal submission:. Those schools are:

  • Emmett J. Conrad High School (Dallas ISD) – Alice & The Wonderland (red)
  • Greenhill School – Atlantis (white)
  • Hillcrest High School (Dallas ISD) – Ethereal Sky (pink)
  • Parish Episcopal School – Underwater Origami Forest (blue)
  • Richardson High School (RISD) – Purple Quartz Cavern (purple)
  • Williams High School (Plano ISD) –Whispers Along the Hollow (green)

Students were mentored by Meow Wolf team members, receiving behind-the-scenes tours at Meow Wolf Grapevine as well as funding for materials to help build the pop-up’s “immersive rooms.”

“As SPARK! Dallas celebrates its 10th anniversary, we’re committed to showcasing the most creative programs, and that includes PRISMATIC: Fantastical Realms,” SPARK! Dallas Executive Director Meg Bittner said in a statement. “These talented students will create an immersive art experience for all to see—from young children to adults—so don’t miss its limited showing.”

Christy Howell, exhibition manager at Meow Wolf Grapevine, said that mentoring SPARK! students again this year “has been an incredible experience.” “PRISMATIC gives these young creators a platform to unleash their imagination and innovation,” Howell added. “This partnership truly highlights the intersection of art, technology and engineering, offering students hands-on experience with immersive design concepts that can shape their creative futures.”

PRISMATIC is open to the public on weekends only, May 31 through Sept. 7. Hours are Saturdays from 10:00 a.m.to 8:00 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00-6:00 p.m. All tickets include the PRISMATIC exhibit and admission to the play sculpture areas.
