Dallas-based Topaz Labs, a leader in AI-powered image and video enhancement, took home an Emmy Award earlier this month in the category of AI Image/Video Enhancement for High Quality TV Catalog Restoration.
The win came at the 76th Annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards in New York City, hosted by tech journalist David Pogue.
The award Topaz received is given to an individual, company, or organization for developments which represent “so extensive an improvement on existing methods, or are so innovative in nature that they materially have affected the transmission, recording, or reception of television.”

Adam Sharp, president and CEO of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, called it a privilege to celebrate “the individuals and companies who continue to redefine how technology can deliver communications to consumers around the world.”
Founded in 2005, Topaz Labs is a leader in AI-powered image and video enhancement. Its products are used to improve the visual quality of images and video by over 3 million customers worldwide, the company said, spanning from creative professionals to Fortune 500 companies.
Topaz Labs has made other headlines off the awards show stage lately. In October, the company announced its development of “the first fully agentic AI photo restoration system” in collaboration with Texas A&M University and scholars from Stanford University, Caltech, and others.
Last January, Topas Labs put a sharp focus on its new Gigapixel iOS mobile app, which it said allows users for the first time to enhance photos using AI on their phone for free.
Other top honorees at the Emmy tech event
Other honorees at the Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards included Dr. Tom Leighton, co-founder of Akamai, who received Lifetime Achievement Honors. In his career, Leighton has patented more than 50 developments surrounding content delivery, internet protocols, algorithms for networks, cryptography and digital rights management, and he created the largest distributed computing platform, which today delivers and secures tens of millions of requests per second to billions of users around the world.
In addition, the “Excellence in Production Technology” Emmy Award was present to NASA+, the free, ad-free, on-demand streaming service from NASA. That award was given for the service’s efforts behind “2024 Total Solar Eclipse: Through the Eyes of NASA.”
