Dallas-based Provident Data Centers and McLean, Virginia-based PowerHouse Data Centers have announced the co-development of a 768-acre hyperscale data center campus with a 1.8GW switchyard just outside Grand Prairie in Ellis County. It’s the partners’ first project for their recently announced joint venture.
The companies said the first 500MW tranche already has been approved through ERCOT, the Electric Reliability Council of Texas.
“Provident and PowerHouse are committed to creating lasting benefits to the communities where we build,” Provident founder and CEO Leon Backes said in a statement. “This campus will create significant economic opportunities in Texas while strengthening the state’s position as a critical hub for digital infrastructure and next-generation computing. We are committed to developing high-quality projects that meet the market’s evolving needs, and this data center campus exemplifies that commitment.”

24 buildings are slated across three planned phases
The companies said the data center campus will be built strategically between Dallas and Fort Worth and it will encompass 24 buildings planned across three phases. The project’s first building is slated to be energized in May 2026.
As a newly-rezoned site, the joint venture has secured all necessary approvals and permits, with design and engineering currently underway, the companies said.
“Our venture with Provident is emblematic of the speed to market we bring to bear for hyper scale users. Our partnership centers around a forward-thinking blend of resources, expertise, and ability to meet the most stringent hyper scales requirements in the fast pace world we live in”, Doug Fleit, co-founder and CEO of PowerHouse Data Centers, said in a statement.
The Grand Prairie project is PowerHouse’s second data center in Texas after the previously announced one million-square-foot PowerHouse Irving.
Provident brings more than three decades of real estate development experience to create cutting-edge data centers for enterprise, hyperscale, and telecom clients. This expertise currently spans six states, with more than 70 buildings delivering more than 4 GW of power.
