Dallas-based Sunoco and Energy Transfer have never entered a marketing partnership together—until now. And when they got together to join forces, they felt the need for speed.
The two companies announced Friday that they’ve signed an agreement with Switzerland-based Sauber Motorsport to sponsor its Stake F1 Team KICK Sauber. The two-year partnership agreement is roaring forward for the 2024 season and includes certain sponsorship rights for three Formula 1 Grand Prix races in the U.S. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Formula 1 racing fans will soon be seeing Sunoco and Energy Transfer branding on the new C44 Stake F1 Team car (seen above), which was introduced in Hinwil, Switzerland, earlier this month.
Per the agreement, Sunoco branding will be displayed on the Stake F1 car for the Miami Grand Prix in May and Las Vegas Grand Prix in November.
Energy Transfer’s branding will blaze around the course on the Stake F1 car at the United States Grand Prix in Austin in October.
Making noise of their own as well
Both companies made some noise of their own recently, far from roaring race cars.
Sunoco, which relocated to Dallas from Philadelphia in 2016, agreed in January to acquire San Antonio-based NuStar Energy in an all-equity transaction valued at roughly $7.3 billion.
And last March, midstream energy company Energy Transfer announced plans to acquire Lotus Midstream Operations, located in Sugar Land, in a cash and stock deal worth $1.45 billion from EnCap Flatrock Midstream’s affiliate.
