American Airlines’ EVP/Chief Commercial Officer To Leave Company

Vasu Raja has served as American’s chief commercial officer since April 2022. Stephen Johnson, vice chair and chief strategy officer, will assume leadership of the commercial organization and help lead the search for a new chief commercial officer.

Fort Worth-based American Airlines Group Inc. announced that Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Vasu Raja will leave the airline this month.

Raja has served as American’s chief commercial officer since April 2022.

He previously held the role of Chief Revenue Officer and SVP of Network Strategy, where he was responsible for Network and Alliances. He joined American in 2004 and has held a variety of roles in Sales, Planning, and Revenue Management.

In addition to his current responsibilities and effective immediately, American said that Stephen Johnson, vice chair and chief strategy officer, will assume leadership of the commercial organization and help lead the search for a new chief commercial officer.

  • As the inaugural customer of Graphyte, a North Carolina-based carbon removal startup, the Fort Worth-based airline has purchased 10,000 tons of carbon removal credits to be delivered in early 2025. Graphyte's technology turns biomass into "dense carbon blocks" that are wrapped and stored underground.

  • Industry veteran Jeff Doane has been appointed chief commercial officer of Dallas-based Omni Hotels & Resorts, bringing 20 years of hospitality experience to his new post.
