The Dallas Women’s Foundation honored five influential Dallas women recently for their positive and productive impact on women and girls in the North Texas area.
The women were presented the 2017 Maura Women Helping Women and Young Leader Awards for their work in a variety of fields during a May 9 dinner event at the Omni Dallas Hotel.
“Since 1978, the Maura Awards have recognized exceptional leaders who have pioneered the way in improving lives for women and girls,” the event’s co-chair, Cheryl Alston said at the event.

Foundation selection committee co-chair, Brenda Jackson, awarded the first four honorees with the Maura Women Helping Women Award.
Recipients of the Maura Award include Hind Jarrah, executive director of the Texas Muslim Women’s Foundation; Madeline McClure, founder and CEO of TexProtects, The Texas Association for the Protection of Children; Judge Tonya Parker; and Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez.
CPA Cynthia Nwaubani was the recipient of the 2017 Young Leader Award for her work in creating opportunities for women entrepreneurs as well as future leaders.
WOMEN’S FOUNDATION IS WORLD’S LARGEST REGIONAL WOMEN’S FUND
Each recipient has made public efforts to advocate safety and success for a diverse selection of women in North Texas, according to the release.
The Dallas Women’s Foundation is the largest regional women’s fund in the world. Since it launched the Unlocking Leadership Campaign in 2013, the foundation has raised $35 million of its $50 million goal. The money will contribute to the economic stability and leadership potential of young women, according to the foundation website.
