Pucker up—because this smoothie may not go down quite as sweet as the last.
Dallas-based Smoothie King has partnered with Grillo’s Pickles to debut the brand’s first-ever limited-edition Pickle Smoothie. The company said its new “bold, culture-driven flavor” is designed for those who love pickles so much they could drink them.
Smoothie King noted that pickles have emerged as “one of the hottest ingredients in today’s food culture,” and stressed the sour green icon’s nutritional benefits.
And it’s not just packed with pickles. The Pickle Smoothie blends real Grillo’s Pickles with Smoothie King ingredients like bananas, organic kale, and coconut water—delivering “a refreshingly tangy taste and packed with electrolytes to help support hydration all summer long.”
Lori Primavera, VP of R&D and product marketing at Smoothie King, said pickles “are not only delicious and having a cultural moment, they also offer real nutritional benefits, especially known for their enhanced hydration.”
“That combination gave us an opportunity to explore them in a new format and push our innovation into new territory,” she added in a statement, “reimagining how a beloved flavor can deliver both function and taste.”
A love for ‘unhinged collabs’
Mark Luker, Grillo’s chief commercial officer, said his company loves to do “unhinged collabs.”
“With that, we don’t always get to talk about the functional benefits of pickles,” he added. “When we partnered with Smoothie King for a hydration smoothie, we knew this was a great opportunity to do both. Those who are willing to try will be pleasantly surprised (and hydrated).”
The Pickle Smooth is available now at Smoothie King for a limited time. And since May 16 is International Pickle Day, customers can enjoy a free 4-ounce Pickle Smoothie that day, available in stores “while supplies last.”
