Walmart Expands Same-Day Pharmacy Delivery to Include Refrigerated Medications

The retail giant says it’s the first to deliver refrigerated prescriptions like insulin and pediatric amoxicillin alongside groceries and household essentials. The expanded service is available at all North Texas Walmart pharmacies.

Walmart has expanded its Same-Day Pharmacy Delivery service to include refrigerated and reconstituted medications—such as insulin, GLP-1s, and pediatric amoxicillin—at locations nationwide, including all Walmart pharmacies in North Texas.

The company says it’s the first retailer to offer delivery of refrigerated prescriptions alongside groceries and household items in a single online order. In Texas, Walmart operates more than 500 stores, with about 140 locations across 11 North Texas counties, including 96 Supercenters and 44 Neighborhood Markets.

Kevin Host, Walmart’s senior vice president of pharmacy, said the company added refrigerated prescriptions to its delivery service after hearing from customers. “We continue to broaden access to critical medications,” he said in a statement.

The company said the expanded service builds on momentum since launching Pharmacy Delivery chainwide eight months ago. One year after piloting the program, Walmart said it has fulfilled more than 4 million pharmacy orders, including one in just nine minutes.

Bentonville, Arkansas-based Walmart said refrigerated medications account for more than 30% of its pharmacy sales. By offering home delivery for these prescriptions, the company aims to improve access for customers who are short on time, prefer to shop from home, or face barriers getting to a store.

How it works

Once a prescription is filled, customers are notified via their pharmacy account and can select a delivery option that fits their schedule: Same-Day Scheduled, On-Demand, or Express. Real-time tracking is available through the Walmart app.

Refrigerated medications are placed in insulated, light-blocking bags designed to maintain safe, regulated temperatures and shield contents from UV and ambient light exposure. Customers must be present to receive the order and provide an electronic signature.

Walmart employs more than 15,000 pharmacists nationwide. The company serves roughly 270 million customers weekly across 10,750 stores and eCommerce platforms in 19 countries. It reported revenue of $681 billion for fiscal year 2025 and has approximately 2.1 million associates worldwide.
