Two Years after $3.9B Acquisition, Amazon’s One Medical Expands Its DFW Presence with New Plano Office

The new office expands One Medical's partnership with Baylor Scott & White Health to deliver "seamless, coordinated care" throughout the region, following earlier office openings in Addison, Highland Park, University Park, and Fort Worth's West 7th District.

Amazon’s One Medical, a national leader in tech-powered, membership-based primary care, has expanded to Plano with a new location at the Shops at Legacy, marking its fifth office in Dallas-Fort Worth.

The new office expands One Medical’s partnership with Baylor Scott & White Health to deliver “seamless, coordinated care” throughout the region, following earlier office openings in Addison, Highland Park, University Park, and Fort Worth’s West 7th District.

Amazon acquired One Medical for $3.9B in 2022

In 2022, Amazon acquired One Medical for $3.9 billion, describing it as “a human-centered, technology-powered national primary care organization on a mission to make quality care more affordable, accessible, and enjoyable through a seamless combination of in-person, digital, and virtual care services that are convenient to where people work, shop, and live.” One Medical was meant to complement the company’s Amazon Clinic and Amazon Pharmacy services, which we wrote about in 2022. This summer, Amazon announced that Amazon Clinic will now operate under the Amazon One Medical brand name as its “pay-per-visit telehealth service.”

Aiming to bridge ‘the primary care gap’

One Medical cited research showing that 30% of Americans are without a primary care doctor. As part of Amazon’s health services, One Medical said its key goal is “bridging the primary care gap by providing an integrated virtual and in-office hybrid experience.”  “We’re delighted to grow our presence in the vibrant town of Plano with the opening of this new location,” Greg Hayes, MD, Dallas District Medical Director of One Medical, said in a statement. “This expansion underscores our ongoing commitment to making exceptional primary care widely accessible across Texas, in partnership with Baylor Scott & White Health.”  One Medical’s membership model and “pay-per-visit” experience include same-day or next-day appointments, 24/7 virtual care services, on-site labs, and integrated digital health tools. Members are said to have a “relationship-based care experience with a dedicated primary care provider” who coordinates all aspects of their care across One Medical’s offices and Baylor Scott & White Health’s network of specialists.

One Medical memberships are available for $199 per year, with Amazon Prime members able to get a discounted membership of only $9 per month or $99 annually. Most major insurance plans are also accepted at One Medical offices for primary care services, the company said.
