Making payments across different currencies or with people who don’t use a bank can be tricky, but a Richardson startup has the solution.

Bruce Parker is the founder of ModoPayments, a mobile payment company that works with Bank of America and other clients to make complicated transactions seamless, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Parker talked about his background and how his company works in the Q&A with the Morning News.

MODOPAYMENTS WORKS WITH CLIENTS SUCH AS VERIFONE, KLARNA 

The newspaper said that ModoPayments acts as like a payment plumber, using a transaction system called COIN that connects financial services companies or other sources of value with digital payment tools. Its list of clients includes Bank of America, VeriFone and European financial tech startup Klarna.

The company has raised $11.6 million since Parker founded it in 2010. ModoPayments did $10 million worth of transactions in January, but could be handling up to $85 million by the end of the year.

It originally started as a payment app for customers to use and for retailers and restaurants to build loyalty. But he changed directions to go behind-the-scenes when it became clear that customers won’t use their phone for point-of-purchase transactions.
