Alt Philanthropy Gives Bands Free Pub, Helps Causes

Two Dallas-Fort Worth area high school students are promoting up-and-coming bands while raising money for charity.

Caitlin Ferguson and Ramisha Sattar founded Alt Philanthropy where they interview alternative and independent bands, post the content to their website, and then sell signed merchandise from that band, Park Cities People reports.

Ferguson is a senior at Highland Park High School while Sattar is a senior at Plano West High School.

The T-shirts, pins and photographs are all designed by Sattar. So far, they’ve raised a few hundred dollars for groups such as Hungry for Music, Save the Children and Planned Parenthood.

“A lot of these artists have a strong following, so when they post about us, and our T-shirts and stuff, the fans will follow us,” Sattar said. “Plus the music scene in Dallas is pretty close, so you see people around that know people and know you and will help follow and promote you.”
