Editors note: Ahead of National Cookie Day, the sandwich chain announced the popular foot-long cookie will become a permanent addition to Subway menus with a nationwide rollout in early 2024.
Subway says it sells more freshly baked cookies “than any other restaurant company in the United States.” To reinforce that offering, the chain plans some innovative marketing on December 4—also known as National Cookie Day.
The company has more than 37,000 locations in more than 100 countries and territories. But on December 4, only four of them are slated for a one-day “restaurant rebrand,” with foot-long cookies rolling out of their ovens. One will be in downtown Dallas at 1222 Commerce Street. (The others are in Chicago, Miami, and New York City).
On December 4 from 1 to 6 p.m., the four locations will be rebranded as “Cookieway” and hand out one free footlong cookie with the purchase of any footlong sub, while supplies last.
The stunt follows a one-location event Subway did last year on National Cookie Day at one of its restaurants in Miami.
“The overwhelming response we received from fans around the country last year let us know that we needed to make the footlong cookie a permanent addition to our menu,” Paul Fabre, SVP of culinary and innovation at Subway, said in a statement. “At Cookieway this year, our guests will get a sneak peek of an even better footlong cookie: thick, gooey, packed with chocolate chips and served warm—right out of the oven. It’s the perfect pairing with your favorite footlong sub and may even become your favorite footlong after the first bite.”
If you can’t make it to downtown Dallas on December 4, you may go foot-long-cookieless. But the chain is giving you a chance to do good with your cookie purchases now through December 31. Every cookie sold through then at Subway will support the Subway Cares Foundation, which runs Subway’s Fresh Start Scholarships program, among other initiatives.
The Fresh Start Scholarship program offers tuition assistance to “sandwich artists” working in the U.S., Canada, Australia, and Puerto Rico, providing each recipient $2,500 toward secondary education.
