Dallas County operates government centers in various cities throughout its domain, and now it’s adding one more: a new 56,325 square-foot, two-story outpost in Mesquite. The project is budgeted at $32 million, according to The Real Deal.

The Mesquite Government Center will serve as the home of multiple government departments and user groups, including a Tax Office, Constable Office, and Justice of the Peace and Juvenile Services offices. A community space and early voting operations area will also be featured.

Boston-based Suffolk is the contractor on the project, under a design-build partnership with Ohio-based architectural firm Moody Nolan. 

Assistant County Administrator Jonathon Bazan says the new center “reflects our strong commitment to serving the residents and businesses of Dallas County and the city of Mesquite.”

“This project has been carefully planned with a focus on supporting small businesses, inclusivity, and meeting the needs of our community,” Bazan said in a statement. “Effective service delivery is a top priority for the county, and the construction of this facility will further that objective.”

Slated for completion in June 2024

Suffolk’s Brad Brown

Suffolks is putting up the center in a design-build partnership with Ohio-based architectural firm Moody Nolan. The project is slated to be completed in June 2024. 

Brad Brown, Suffolk’s president of the South Central Region, aims for the project to begin something long-lasting with the county. 

“Suffolk looks forward to building a long-term and collaborative relationship with Dallas County through this crucial project, which will act as a community hub and allow the county to increase the services and benefits it provides to its growing number of residents,” Brown said in the statement. 

Targeting LEED Silver certification

The new center will expand Dallas County government’s presence in Mesquite, providing space to house key resources “that will help fulfill its strategic priorities of meeting local business needs, fostering job creation, planning for diverse housing opportunities and prioritizing workforce development, among others,” Suffolk said. 

The center will incorporate multiple sustainable components, allowing it to target LEED Silver certification upon its completion, Suffolk added.

Wardell Ross Jr., director of operations for Moody Nolan Dallas, says his firm is taking a community-focused approach to designing the project.

“As a firm, we do our best work when serving our local communities, and we look forward to providing residents with a new facility that offers additional services to meet their evolving needs,” Ross said.

Adds to list of big Suffolk projects in DFW

The Mesquite Government Center project will add to Suffolk’s growing portfolio in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, which currently includes The Galbraith, a 15-story apartment community on Bryan Street in Dallas;The Terminal at Katy Trail; the Terminal C renovations at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport; and a planned hotel for the Tribute development in The Colony.
