Good Buy Gear, the secondhand baby and children’s gear store, is expanding for the first time with a move into Dallas.
Buying and selling is made simple with Colorado-based Good Buy Gear with its managed marketplace and ecommerce website. Using a tech-forward approach, Good Buy Gear allows parents to avoid consignment stores and meet-ups for stuff they no longer need. A user simply signs up online, and the Good Buy Gear team does all of the heavy lifting, unlike a traditional online marketplace.
“Being a parent is incredibly hard and expensive, and we believe parents need more help,” CEO and Co-founder Kristin Langenfeld said in a statement. “We are building a company with a mission to help families save time for what matters most.”
Langenfeld and fellow mom Jessica Crothers (who acts as COO) set out to find a solution after facing frustration in a Facebook moms group. The co-founders were no stranger to creating and establishing their ideas, with Langenfeld an electrical engineer in mobile and tech startups, and Crothers a former advisor to the federal government.
They said they were “acutely aware of the waste, clutter, and never-ending costs associated with raising children,” and wanted to become the industry leader in recommerce of the niche industry. So, the duo started the business in a garage in 2016 with the hope extend the life of kids’ gear, while helping parents avoid wasting money.
The Good Buy Gear system allows for both flexibility and the chance for moms to become mini-entrepreneurs. Its program, called Wingmoms, is a workforce of moms with a passion for baby gear who are able to provide their stamp of approval and customer experience. They are able to receive company perks and bonus programs.
“All of our products undergo a quality assurance check by a mom like you,” Crothers said. “If she wouldn’t let her kids use it, we won’t sell it.”
Dallas moms can now look forward to the hassle of secondhand shopping disappearing: Pickup, posting, and delivery are all handled, but the mom gets reimbursed. Good Buy Gear does ship many good nationwide, but plan to expand to 20 other cities in the next five years.
