TXU Energy Honors Five Area Organizations with Energy Leadership Awards

TXU's awards recognize corporate and nonprofit leaders in categories including energy management, innovation, community, sustainability, and engagement.

TXU Energy Leadership

Five organizations have been named by Irving-based TXU Energy as winners in the TXU Energy Leadership Award Program.

The awards were announced on Sept. 24 in conjunction with the TXU Energy Summit in Arlington. Corporate and nonprofit leaders have been recognized due to their accomplishments in areas including energy management, innovation, community, sustainability, and engagement.

“These businesses and organizations are setting the standard for energy responsibility and providing an excellent roadmap for their peers to achieve similar success in their operations,” Gabe Castro, TXU Energy’s vice president of business markets, said in a statement.

Here are the area winners and the reasons they were recognized:

Leadership in Energy Management: Fort Worth ISD

Fort Worth Independent School District was recognized for minimizing its environmental impact while using electricity. The district installed solar arrays and saved $250,000 and 800,000 kWhs of energy through TXU Greenback rebates to install HVAC and control work. TXU Energy noted in a statement that Fort Worth ISD, which is comprised of 143 schools, “is shaping the future of our state.”

Leadership in Innovation: City of McKinney

The City of McKinney won the award for Leadership in Innovation due to using hybrid vehicles, adding electric vehicle charging units to public buildings, and developing LED lighting and roofing projects. Because of its efforts in renewable power, energy efficiency, and more, McKinney saw $155,000 in savings annually and is “setting new standards for operational excellence.”

Leadership in Community: The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army in partnership with TXU Energy Aid has helped over 10,000 TXU Energy customers pay their electricity bills. TXU Energy’s employees have also volunteered with The Salvation Army through Vistra’s United Way/TXU Energy Aid campaign. The Salvation Army is “committed to meeting the needs of communities, without discrimination,” which is why TXU Energy selected it for the Leadership in Community award.

Leadership in Sustainability: Hood Packaging

Hood Packaging located nearby in Tyler has installed new technology in its manufacturing center, which has reduced its energy usage by 500,000 kWh. The company has also added more efficient packaging equipment, which has provided Hood Packaging with even more energy savings and builds upon its commitment to using 100 percent green energy.

Leadership in Engagement: City of Irving

The City of Irving provides classes on recycling and hosts a Home Energy Fair and the City of Irving Environmental Career Symposium. A Green Neighbor Program for its residents is expected to soon expand on Irving’s environmentally-friendly guidelines. The City of Irving has brought its efforts into Irving ISD’s classrooms by educating students on sustainable practices and green career choices.

TXU Energy is a subsidiary of Irving-based Vistra Energy.
