Calling all budding entrepreneurs in the Denton area—this one’s for you.

The Murphy Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of North Texas recently announced it would be partnering with the new Denton Angel Investment Group.

The group, located in the Stoke Entrepreneurial Hub, intends to provide capital to high-growth early-stage startups—with an emphasis on the Denton region, of course.

The goal is to boost the area’s startup ecosystem by supporting local entrepreneurs that aim to make a global impact. New ventures can submit their ideas, then connect with interested accredited investors. The group will also host various events aimed at providing strategic advisory to the growing startup network.

The Murphy Center—housed in the College of Business at UNT—calls itself a platform for those on a quest to explore innovation opportunities. The university believes that network and collaboration are “the fuel that feeds a vibrant venture community,” which directly aligns with the goals of the Denton investment group.

Senior Director of the Muphy Center Jon McCarry said UNT will play various roles in supporting the growth of the Denton Angels, such as assisting entrepreneurs and helping investors access opportunities.

“Between our university and the Denton community at large, we have a rich environment for startups to access creativity, technology, educational support, economic growth, and capital,” McCarry, who’s also an alumnus of UNT, said in a statement.

McCarry was a founding member of the Denton Angels, along with several successful corporate executives, including:

Marshall Culpepper, CEO of Kubos: A developer of satellite flight software designed top-to-bottom for mission developers.
Mark Cieri, CEO of QV Partners LLC: A quest venture that offers commercialization services for innovative technologies.
Jeff Dodd, corporate attorney at Hunton Andrews Kurth: A law firm serving clients across transactional, litigation, and regulatory matters.

Those looking to invest and those looking to be invested in can both apply on the Denton Angels website, or curious (but tentative) parties can submit questions about the group. On Oct. 24, the group will lead its first workshop focused on those considering seeking investment: When, What, Why, and How of Fundraising.
