The Ruthie’s Food Trucks team just launched a new extension of it motto “Food Truck with a Purpose.” The team created a food truck that exists to disseminate kindness throughout the community. The staff and volunteers will lead the kindness initiative by facilitating surprise snacks and surprise acts of kindness.
“It’s literally the perfect vehicle to demonstrate kindness and lift up the community, which is exactly what we want to do with our ‘food truck with a purpose’ mission,” says owner Ashlee Kleinert.
“We have been working on this Kindness Truck idea for a while,” Ruthie’s owner, Ashlee Kleinert, says. “It’s literally the perfect vehicle to demonstrate kindness and lift up the community, which is exactly what we want to do with our ‘food truck with a purpose’ mission.”
The Kindness Truck is the first of its kind in Dallas-Fort Worth. The food truck trend is very popular and well received by the community. So the Ruthie’s team wanted to put a spin on the idea of a food truck and do something out of the ordinary. The truck will not have any items for sale; it will only give items away via surprise acts or snacks of kindness.
“There are a number of ways you’ll see the Kindness Truck used,” Kleinert says. “You may see us giving away hot coffee early in the morning at a DART station. Or perhaps you may see us providing warm blankets to a homeless shelter on a chilly night.”
This new Kindness Truck will add even more value to Ruthie’s existing philanthropic endeavors. Ruthie’s Dozen is a philanthropic-focused program where the Ruthie’s team selects a different nonprofit each month to be featured among the Rutile’s network.
In addition to the recognition and exposure the Ruthie’s Dozen recipients receive, they are also given 10 percent net sales for their selected month. With the Kindness Truck, Ruthie’s is able to reach even deeper into the community and positively impact more lives with kindness.
“We realize we don’t have the man power to have hundreds of food trucks all over North Texas every day, but we can impact hundreds of folks at a time with a surprise snack of kindness. And that, too, has a ripple effect of giving,” Kleinert says.
