If it’s new and innovative in the realm of microchips, semiconductors, mobile device components, testing equipment, or wearables, Mansfield-based Mouser Electronics Inc. probably carries it. And, with a nod to the movie “Jaws,” Mouser needed a bigger boat.

Mouser, dubbed the world’s largest electronics parts distributor, announced this week a major expansion of its giant global headquarters and distribution center intended to meet the needs of its growing business for the next decade, and beyond.

Construction is already underway on Mouser’s campus, which includes an additional 125,000 square feet of distribution center space and a new 50,000-square-foot office building.

After the project is complete, Mouser’s 78-acre property will house 1 million square feet dedicated to inventory—big enough to accommodate 1 million unique stock keeping units (SKUs) for products and technologies from more than 750 electronic component manufacturers.

Mouser approached $2 billion in sales last year

Last year, Mouser—a Berkshire Hathaway company—reached $1.9 billion in sales, and said it’s on a pace to surpass that amount in 2019.

Mouser has grown its full-time worldwide workforce to more than 2,400 employees and is ready to provide local customer service in four new global locations: Brazil, Poland, Vietnam, and the Philippines.

“Adding new products and manufacturers reinforces our steadfast commitment to our customers as a single destination for all the components and development tools necessary for the design process,” Mouser’s president and CEO, Glenn Smith, said in a statement. “Our focus on providing the industry’s widest breadth of products is resonating with our growing customer base of engineers and procurement agents in every corner of the world.”

Mouser said it stocks the widest selection of authorized components in major product categories. That could include semiconductors, embedded modules, optoelectronics, passives, interconnects and wire/cable assemblies, electromechanical, power, test and measurement, and tools.

In the past few years, Mouser said it has made significant capital investments in state-of-the-art, automated equipment to process orders with best-in-class efficiency and accuracy. Already, the 24-hour global distribution center handles tens of thousands of orders every day from more than 600,000 customers in 220 countries and territories.

“With the rapid increase in technological advancements such as IoT, electric vehicles, artificial intelligence, robotics, and 5G, we definitely find ourselves in a very robust and fortunate position,” Smith said. “We are planning for future growth as our customer needs increase.”
