Editor’s Picks: Calendar for June 23-30


It’s tough to keep up with all the happenings in DFW, so we’ve pulled together some of our favorite events to help you plan your week. From outdoor concerts to panel discussions to robot builders night out, there’s something we know you’ll love!


#VGOCC (Gaming Open Coffee Club – Plano)  8 to 9 a.m. at Angela’s at the Crosswalk, 1010 E. 15th St., in Plano. Talk video games and tech with other video game developers and trends in the gaming industry. More information can be found here.

PANEL DISCUSSION  2 p.m. at The MAC, 1601 South Ervay St., in Dallas. The Giovanni Valderas exhibition, Forged Utopia, expresses the impact of gentrification on the Latino community in Dallas. Panel members, including the artist himself, will expand on these topics at this free event. Visit the website to learn more.

SOCIAL HOUR  5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Social House Addison, 5100 Belt Line Road, Suite 410, in Addison. Sponsored by Brightwing and hosted by the PMI Dallas Chapter, this networking event is free to the public. Register here.

DECKS IN THE PARK — 6 to 10:30 p.m. at Klyde Warren Park in Dallas. Dallas’ largest free outdoor concert is back for its 4th season with a lineup of local talent. The seasonal music festival series draws crowds of over 6,000 people and supports a variety of charities. Check it out here.

THE BOARDROOM – Real Life Shark Tank  7 to 10 p.m. in Flower Mound (exact location provided upon registration). Dallas Entrepreneurs will be available to listen to other hopeful entrepreneurs, in a real-life Shark Tank. Find more information here.


CLEAN AIR ACTION DAY  10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at City Hall Plaza, 1500 Marilla St., in Dallas and the Central Library, 1515 Young St., in Dallas. Green Dallas and partners present the first ever Clean Air Action Day on the first Friday of the summer to take action and improve local air quality. SUSTAINABILITY DAY  10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 8525 Garland Road, in Dallas. Presented by the Dallas Arboretum, explore the possibility of farming in space and other technology and botanical collaborations. More information can be found here.

OAK LAWN FARMERS MARKET — 8 a.m. at 3014 Oak Lawn Ave., in Dallas. Enjoy seasonally made produce and local handicrafts at this weekly event. More information can be found here.

DESIGN YOUR OWN DREAM JOB  8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Dallas Entrepreneur Center (DEC), 311 N Market St., in Dallas, learn how to find a career or start your own business for an entry fee of $500. Find more information here.
CODE-FREE WORDPRESS Development Tools with John Peterson  1 to 4:30 p.m. at 16633 Dallas Parkway, Suite 100, in Addison. The DFW WordPress Group will be teaching website owners the tricks of the trade when it comes to WordPress. The event is $12 and includes lunch. For more on this event, check out the invitation.


SUNDAY CINEMA SERIES  7:15 to 11 p.m., located on the outdoor patio of restaurant Knife at The Highland Dallas at 5300 E. Mockingbird Lane, in Dallas. Each week’s screening showcases Wes Anderson films, and this week’s selection is The Royal Tenenbaums. Tickets are $35 per person, inclusive of gratuity, with $10 of each ticket sold benefitting the Dallas Film Society. Each screening will include food, drinks, and guest speakers. WHITEBOARD SESSION  9 a.m. to noon at Addison TreeHouse, 14681 Midway Road, in Addison. Mentors from a variety of backgrounds are available to meet with the public and offer advice. INNOVATE MCKINNEY! Local Startup Competition and Business Expo  5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Cotton Mill, 610 Elm St. 110, in McKinney. Enjoy appetizers and refreshments as cash prizes for the startup finalists get announced, and do some networking along the way. More information on the free event can be found on the website.

ROBOT BUILDERS NIGHT OUT  6 p.m. at Dallas Makerspace, 1825 Monetary Lane, Suite 104, in Carrollton. Bring your robot and help others construct their own. Membership is not required, and donations are also welcome. For more on this event, visit their website.


ONE MILLION CUPS   9 to 10 a.m. at IDEA Works Fort Worth, 600 E. Rosedale St., in Fort Worth. This weekly program features different entrepreneurs who present their startups to the community. Visit the website for more information.


USPTO: BIOTECHNOLOGY, CHEMICAL, AND PHARMACEUTICAL (BCP) PARTNERSHIP MEETING — 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at USPTO Texas Regional Office 207 South Houston St., Suite 159, in Dallas.
